Official Trailer and Plot of Baththa
Set in Madras during the late 1980s, Baththa revolves around Baththavachalam, a feared local figure who maintains his authority by intimidating those around him. Sabhari, a young boy living in the same neighbourhood, is scared of Baththa after witnessing one of his confrontations.
Shortly before the summer holidays, Sabhari’s teacher confiscates his toy. Determined to get it back, the boy secretly enters the school early one morning. After using the toilet, he accidentally locks the bathroom door from the outside and discovers that Baththa is trapped inside.
Frightened by Baththa’s threats, Sabhari initially runs away. However, he eventually returns with rusks and feeds them to Baththa through a small gap beneath the door. After spending several days trapped inside, Baththa desperately asks to be released and promises not to harm the person responsible.
When Sabhari’s mother announces that their family will be leaving for their hometown, the boy finally gathers the courage to unlock the door. He discovers Baththa lying unconscious and immediately seeks help. Following his rescue, Baththa develops an affection for Sabhari and begins to change his attitude. He even apologizes to his wife, Kannima, and starts treating her with the respect she has long been denied.
As Baththa attempts to identify the person who locked him inside the bathroom, Sabhari eventually admits that he was responsible. Instead of reacting with anger, Baththa embraces the boy.
Later, Baththa opens up about the reason behind his harsh personality, revealing that years of ridicule over his inability to sing have affected him deeply. With encouragement from Sabhari, he finally sings at his daughter Thenu’s puberty ceremony. His performance receives appreciation from those present, helping him find acceptance and overcome his insecurities.
